Muker Village
As you travel over the old 18th century bridge into Muker you see its pretty sandstone church watching over the stone cottages of the village and the unique literary institute where the famous Muker Silver Band has practised for over 100 years.
Muker is home to Swaledale Woollens, which has been supporting the hand knitting industry for 34 years, sending garments all over the world and used by an arctic expedition. Muker village store and tearooms has been likened to the "Betty's" of the dales. The Farmers Arms welcomes you with its traditional interior and warm fire. The Old School Gallery and craft shop holds many charming local pictures and crafts.
Muker village is situated in Upper Swaledale near the famous Buttertubs Pass, linking Swaledale and Wensleydale. The changing light and wonderful field patterns with their stone walls and traditional byres attract many famous artists.
Muker has beautiful views down the dale towards Gunnerside and across the River Swale to Kisdon Hill. In May and June its rare wild flower meadows are world famous. Wander along the Pennine Way and see them, not forgetting to call in at Swaledale Woollens!
